I don't think it is rigged, and I don't think that racism had anything to do with it, but I do think that size-ism with a dash of sexism came into play. Sure, Reuben Studdard is a big guy, but he is a guy. The "Velvet Teddy Bear." I figure that most of the people that care enough to actually cast a vote for an AI contestant are teenage girls, and they can be brutal. They can forgive a guy with charisma for being fat, but a chick? That may be too much for them.
I think you're onto something there. It hasn't always been that way, but these days marketing is so much a part of producing a record. Back in the days of Aretha Franklin (the only overweight female solo star I can think of), the first exposure people had to an artist was on the radio. You got to love the music first and the image was not as important. Now-a-days, Carrie Underwood was remade, repackaged, copyrighted, etc. all before her songs hit the air waves.

Agreed, AI is rigged. That's just plain bullshit...there, I said it. :)
Actually, I'm just joking. Check out what I posted on my blog.
